The Chapeltown Union of Psychogeographers (C.U.P) was founded by artist, researcher and writer Roddy Hunter in late 2010. He proposed to establish C.U.P when invited by East Street Arts, Leeds to be writer-in-residence for a programme of ‘new genre public art’ entitled ‘Under The Paving Stones, The Beach’ to take place in Chapeltown in June 2011. The project is produced in association with York St John University.
C.U.P is different from normal ways of thinking about art and social issues. It t is a voluntary civic association, open to all, which encourages collaboration and sharing ideas and knowledge. We hope that the association develops a diverse membership and that a range of events, meetings and opportunities that reflect members’ interests and desires will take place.
We’d like to make a paper-based publication (possibly in the form of a newspaper called ‘The Saucer‘) which draws together ideas and images posted on this website by members. We hope to publish this newspaper during ‘Under The Paving Stones, The Beach’ and distribute it free of charge throughout Chapeltown. We will of course consult and agree with contributors on the nature and scope of this publication.
Membership is entirely without cost and your internet privacy is guaranteed to be respected. You may of course prefer just to read or comment on posts without becoming a member.
Remember, There is Power in a Union
